Fuel prices have risen substantially over the past decade, and have unpredictable price swings that can make homeowner dread winter. Each year, more and more Massachusetts residents are finding it increasingly difficult to afford the cost of heating their homes.
Huhtala Oil & Propane recognize the difficulties people face every day. We value all of our customers and consider them as neighbors and friends.
If you need a little help with your heating costs, or know someone who does, there are a variety of programs and organizations to help make ends meet. Huhtala Oil & Propane works with all programs available to our customers. Listed below are the most common programs in our area. Make sure to register for programs early, increased use can often lead to wait times for many customers.
Fuel Assistance
A program to help low-income families pay their heating bills. LIHEAP fuel assistance pays some of the winter heating costs for eligible families. The benefit amount depends on family income and heating costs.
The fuel assistance program was started so that low-income people would not have to choose between heating their homes or buying food or other things they need.
Fuel assistance is for low-income tenants and homeowners, and eligibility is based on your household's gross
annual income. If you rent, you may receive fuel assistance even if your heat is included in the rent.

Good Neighbor Fund
Now in its 35th year, the Massachusetts Good Neighbor Energy Fund has provided energy assistance to hundreds-of-thousands of residents in temporary crisis who are struggling to pay their energy bills and do not qualify for federal or state energy funds.
A cooperative effort between sponsoring Massachusetts energy companies and caring neighbors throughout the Commonwealth, the Good Neighbor Energy Fund has raised over $22 million and assisted more than 90,250 households with a month's energy expense since its inception in 1985.
