Central air conditioning systems have two elements: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The outdoor unit cools air and sends it indoors, where the second unit circulates it through your home. As this occurs, the unit draws room air through return-air ducts. This air passes through a filter that removes airborne particles such as dust, lint, and microscopic pollutants. The filtered air is then routed to air supply ductwork that carries it back into all rooms.
